Abstract

Universities are seeking new pedagogies that reach a larger geographic area and appeal to more students. HyFlex is a hybrid modality where students can choose how to receive course content. Studies have shown its effectiveness in many different disciplines, yet not in school psychology training. This study obtains feedback from graduate students in a school psychology program in Appalachia after being enrolled in a counseling course with a HyFlex pedagogy. The majority of students chose the asynchronous modality and, once selected, stayed with the same mode the entire semester. Students were overwhelmingly positive about the experience, with only one of eleven students indicating a dislike for HyFlex. Students liked the flexibility it offered and the ability to record presentations rather than present them in person. Thoughts regarding future use in school psychology programs are offered.
